This book is an excellent resource for those interested in reflection through the use of a journal, for their personal and professional development. As I have always enjoyed recording events in my life, it has inspired me to further develop my journal into a reflective account of event to help me examine and address issues I encounter as a therapist and in my daily life...
The book is suitable for those who are new to journal writing and are not sure how to start. It is easy to read, the examples are interesting and relevant to complementary health practitioners and the format makes it easy to follow.
This is an authoritative yet permissive book. Jane's writing is steeped in a rich knowledge of the topic (it was reassuring that so many of my favourite authors found a mention; I also discovered new ones to follow up on.) Her keen appreciation of the practicalities of embarking on reflective work for the first time shone through... this is a reassuring and encouraging book. Suitable for those brand new to the idea of reflective practice (I'm going to recommend it to my Foundation Degree students), whilst at the same time a rich treasure trove of ideas, techniques, and models for those more familiar with the topic.
Reading this book was like wandering into a wonderful toyshop crammed with exciting games. There were some old favourites, some brand new ones, very clear instructions on all the boxes, lots of encouragement, and absolute permission to jettison those I didn't like. I couldn't wait to get going!
There is something for everyone, from the most reluctant beginner to the long-time keeper of journals, from the student in training to the established professional, and tutors, coaches and supervisors everywhere.
