Next up in our Bookends Summer Staycation 2021 we asked our authors about their top UK holiday destinations! this is what they had to say…
Tell us about your No. 1 UK staycation destination
Jill Mansell, author of AND NOW YOU’RE BACK
Sorry not to be wildly original, but it has to be Cornwall. I usually go scouting for locations for each new book but that wasn’t possible last year, so I had to write Should I Tell You? from memory. It’s set in south Cornwall in a town that’s very loosely based on Looe. So many happy family memories of this place – I can’t wait to return!
Rosanna Ley, author of THE ORANGE GROVE
Where I live is my favourite UK destination – West Dorset. A true staycation in every sense of the word. Second choice, if I actually had to go away, would be somewhere in Cornwall.
Kate Sawyer, author of THE STRANDING
Hmm. Well, a few years ago I was lucky enough to be on tour in Newcastle when it just happened to be the most gloriously sunny week. It was the perfect spot. We had lunch down by the Tyne, took advantage of the brilliant shopping, the bars and restaurants and took the Metro to the beach on a particularly sunny day. The whole of the North East coast is just stunning too, so I’d probably plump for somewhere in that area.
Ruth Druart, author of WHILE PARIS SLEPT
- Isle of Wight – where I am now and where I grew up. I love the cliffs, the walks, the wild non-touristy beaches and just being in England!
Harriet Walker, author of THE WEDDING NIGHT
I’ve been going to the Lake District with my family since I was tiny – I love the scenery, the walks, the history and the cakes.
