What’s Your Go-to Christmas Dish? Featuring Louise O’Neill, Laurie Graham, Della Parker, Stef Penney and Rebecca Tinnelly
The festive fun continues as five of our fabulous authors tell us their go-to Christmas dish that they simply can’t get through the yuletide season without!
Louise O’Neill, author of Asking For It and Almost Love:
I become an absolute fiend for toasted sandwiches in the week after Christmas. It’s very strange, it’s as if I decide that fruit and vegetables are poisonous and that subsisting on cheese and bread is the rational solution.
Laurie Graham, author of The Early Birds:
Every year is different but I do like a good Melton Mowbray pork pie with pickles. IMHO the only thing to do with turkey is devil it.
Della Parker, author of The Reading Group:
Mince pies – I go to M&S for them. Tee hee. Everyone in the world is better at making mince pies than I am! I can do a chocolate roulade at a push though.
Stef Penney, author of Under a Pole Star:
Various family members are vegetarian or vegan, so there’s usually a hodge podge of curry, but with additional bread sauce, gravy and pigs-in-blankets. It’s quite weird.
Rebecca Tinnelly, author of Never Go There:
Braised red cabbage. Whenever I cook this at home the smell instantly reminds me of Christmas day: the deep, savoury cabbage combined with the sharp apple and sweet raisins, and all those spices. Yum. It sums up the season perfectly, I can’t have Christmas dinner without it and it makes a perfect accompaniment to pigs in blankets.
